Howdy from Texas

My sister has had a house built. For flooring she went to the lumber mill and bought 1x4 pine planks. The contractor has attached the planks by screwing up through the plywood subfloor. Seems to work, time will tell. What her question is, what should she finish the floor with? Contractor says use urethane(sp?). She wants to use wax. has anyone ever used wax on sanded pine floors?

She can always use wax over urethane. There's nothing else she can put on once she's got wax in the wood though - she's closed out her options.

We have wide pine board (8" to 16") floors in our log home. All we did was screw them down and apply a light wood stain. We did not want any type of urethane or any sealer on our floors. After 13 years, they've "weathered" very well and show wonderful "wear" in some places! I do occasionally touch them up with the same stain. We use scatter rugs in high traffic areas and the surface of floors that don't have a sealer on them helps keeps the rugs from sliding around as much.

We did the same thing to ours as Marcia did to her's. We Love the natural look.....

I have another question, what did you do to the areas the screws are in? I'm trying to talk my husband into doing pine floors, he doesn't think they'll stand up very well. Do you get many dents or scratches? I personally like dents and mars, it adds to it character. The area I want to do this in, is the dining and kitchen areas. I also want to use 8"-10" wide boards. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Kelle, I used ASH for my wood flowers. It has a pattern somewhat like oak, but, *I* think, more personality. I went to a lumber mill, and ordered random width boards, tongue and groove. I like wider boards so I asked that the smallest boards be at least five inches.

Installation was a snap. Rented a hardwood floor hammer and the nails from a rental center, laid the boards together, and you put the nail hammer against the board and hit the top of it with your hand. The nails to NOT show. I love my floors!
