Any particular camera?

Sounds like a job for the experts but if you give more detail, we may be able to help.

Having established that the camera is an AE-1, there are a number of obvious things to try first. These are off the top of my head.

Is the stop-down lever pushed in to the left of the lens? If so release it. Which lens is it? If you remove the lens, does the diaphram open normally? With the lens removed, can you see a bright red spot at the bottom of the camera lens mount . If so the stop down lever mechanism is stuck (assuming the stop down lever on the out side of the lens mount is not still pressed in) Does the battery check show full power with the new battery? Will the film advance lever wind on?

Let me know the answer to these. Going through these processes may resolve the problem, but if not I need to go back to the service guide with your answers in mind.
