28 1.8 USM filters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi Guys:

I have been seriously thinking about unloading my 28-135 and buying a 28 1.8 USM. The reason for this is that I already have a 50 1.4 USM and a 70-210 USM. Both if which use 58mm filters. My question is this. Does the 1.8 need slim filters?(I mostly use one filter at a time) Or can the 58mm filters that I already have, be used on the 28 1.8?

Thanks, John

I doubt it. I use a normal size 58mm B&W filter on my EF24 2.8 and have no vignetting problems. There should be even less chance of vignetting with a 28mm lens. It seems around 20mm the slim filters become necessary. Unless, of course, you like stacking filters.

I have the 28/1.8 and use standard B+W filters. No problem.

You want to change lenses because of filter size ? Well, it's seems a bit odd for me. What if you won't like the 28/1.8 ? BTW, the 24/2.8 and 135/2.8 SF are also 58mm .
