Of course to get the puck into the opposing team's net. Now in tring to do that, each team has 5 players: 3 forwards, 2 defensemen (and a goalie). There are two blue lines, one on each side of the centerline. From the blue line to the goal (and ice behind the goal) is the zone. If a skater goes into the opposing zone before the puck, it is offsides and a face off occurs outside of the zone (neutral zone). One of the most common play stoppers is icing. Icing is when a player hits the puck out of his/her zone and it goes past the center line and continues past the opposing goal line. When the opposing team touches it, it is called icing and a face off occurs inside the zone of the team who hit it. It is to prevent teams from just clearing the puck by hitting it hard out of their zone. In international rules (olympics) a player doesnt have to thouch up, it is automatic when it crosses the opposite goal line. Those are the basics. Whach how teams do line changes. They happen every 1-2 minutes. Very ineresting.
