Pest eating germinating cucumber plants

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Location is north eastern sc about thirty miles from ocean. My problem , as soon as the seeds germinate and the leaves pop up something is eating the leaves off that night. I tried sevin and de but it dosent work. Paper cups seep to help but when you take it away that night the leaves are gone. Anyone from this area have any ideas?

Definitely try the mesh idea. Once the plants are a bit bigger you may have more luck with the varmits. Maybe lay a trap??? Catch whatever or whoever it is and dispose accordingly. If it's the same critter each night then problem solved. If not then at least you're one rodent less.

I don't rember seeing any snails around here, it' about a hundred feet from my garden and no problem there.I have some cut off milk jugs around them and will put screen on the top. Funny though the first two years there was no problem.
