Canon are you listening?

I wanted to share an experience with the pannel. On a recent assignment I noticed another press photographer using a minolta 24-105 on his maxxum 9. I was curious after his raving about its performance, so I shot a roll through it. HELLO CANON! where is our 24-105, this lens was as sharp or sharper than my 28-80f2.8-4L, even wide open ,and it certainly blows the doors off the 28-105usm.I think its time for our consumer priced 24-105. Joe, I've got THE answer and absolute solution to your lens- lust...get the Sigma 28-105 f/2.8-4 Aspherical IF!!!! Knowing that you're partial to Sigma lenses, I don't know how this didn't come to mind without me suggesting it! And of course the Sigma will so impress you, you'll totally forget about not having those measly 4 extra mms on the wide end. And the good part is when you sell your EF 28-80 L after you buy the Sigma, you can still use your 72mm filters! What a deal, eh?

Nice Gary, your about as funny as the kids we use to stuff in the lockers after a football game. Anyway I actually own that lens, yea no kidding, A friend of mine opened a pro photo shop in Boston and I sold him some old medium format gear for cheap money and got the 28- 105 f2.8-4 in exchange. It was brand new at the time and was being pushed on dealers by the Sigma reps. Being a Sigma, its already required a new focusing ring. After all it was used about 8 times, so thats about on schedule for Sigma. Thanks for your suggestion. REALLY. JC

Why, Canon already makes this lens! I swear, Delta International told me! Should be available to order any day now. I think it even has IS...

Take a look at the new Sigma 24-70 2.8. Great lens!

Magnus, someday when no longer work for Sigma, you should try out Canon lenses, then maybe your Sigma promos will look as silly to you too.

Peter you are correct, I just contacted the local canon rep and she confirmed that there is a 24-105L in the works. This however is not going to be a consumer size or priced lens. Lets hope that they also offer a travel size and moderate priced replacement for the 28-105usm in this new range.

Joe, you admit to owning a Sigma lens??!! Well, there goes the reputation ;-) Thanks though for the inside track and heads-up on the pending EF 24-105 L. My 28-70 L may get some bag time when those become available.

I'll avoid lockers too.
