News on 5 replacement ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi All, any news on a replacment for the 5. In particular I'm looking for something with a true spot meter and mirror lock up. I do not want to get another 3 (I'm looking for a backup body) and see no point in getting a 30/33 as it does not have the main 2 features I want (And I do not use ECF anyway). 2nd hand 5's in Australia in good condition are still pulling about $US 400 ... hmmmm J.

G'day Jason,

As far as I've read, the EOS 3 *is* the replacement for the 5. Canon hasn't made any noise about replacing it specifically. At any rate I think they're far too busy concentrating on the digital lineup...

2nd hand Canons seem to get good prices in Australia. There's a shop in Kings Cross, Sydney selling a Canon F-1 for $A975!! It's been advertised in Australian Photography for as long as I remember so maybe the seller's being optimistic!!

I think I saw an EOS 5N at Delta International. It was right next to the EF 24-105 2.8L IS USM and the EF 200 2.8L IS USM.

The EOS 5 has mirror prefire (with 2 sec delay before exposure) and a 3.5% spot. B&H sells a new EOS 5 for $489 the last time I looked. The A2 is $399. The EOS 1N has the features you want as well, but costs as much as an EOS 3.

Yep, the EOS 3 replaced the EOS 5/A2/A2E as the number two camera in the Canon line. So, it's either a used EOS 5/etc. or another EOS 3.

Thanks for the feed back Guys. Unfortunately I got the answers I was expecting. Puppy Face, I'll look forward to you updating your sight with reviews of the *NEW* Canon kit ;)... J.

Note the EOS30 and 33 do have mirror lockup, just no spot meter.
