Vampire Motif in Fall of the House of Ushergreenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread |
I am writing a paper on Poe's "Fall of the House of Usher". I can not seem to find any good sites of criticism to back my theory up. Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing I can think of is Madeline, who appears at the end in the white dress with blood all over her. I heard from somewhere that that is the one biggest indication of vampiricism.

Roderick also fits this idea. Notice that he has lost his sense of smell, etc...he also has a pale complexion, his hair floats and his eyes have a lustre (luster) about them. Madeline returns from the grave, she gets out of her burial chamber, and her gown is soaked in blood...these are all elements of a vampire.
