Has anyone tried either Hoegger's Herbal Wormer or Golden Blend Goat Wormer? I'm wondering if they're any good. Thanks!

I too, am curious if these herbal wormers are effective in any way. Jan, I hope too, someone on the board has experimented and lets us in on the results!

Doesn't the Fiasco farms website (www.fiascofarms.com) discuss the various wormers and their efficacy? I know that Hoegger's catalog now mentions a recent study done on both herbal and non herbal (not a science project study if I recall correctly :o)anthelmetics(wormers).

I like to use herbs when possible with good results- and I may yet try the herbal wormer, but I chose to use Ivermectin orally as I could get it from my vet directly and save on the shipping costs. Also, the time factor was important for me this spring.

OT: I needed to clean out a longtime -no- cleaned out stall. I let the stall go too long (the cold kept the ammonia level down) between muckings thinking it was better insulation. Some depth is okay, I guess, but I spent over 5 hours on a 8X10' stall. That was wet, n' heavy stuff! Never again.

Honestly if you aren't fecal sampling your goats, you shouldn't be using this stuff. What happens if it doesn't work? You KNOW the chemical works. So for now my advice is to use the chemcial wormers, go to saanendoah.com and read up on how to run fecals, buy yourself a cheap microscope, then you don't have to guess if it works or not. The feed through wormer from Golden Blend is not a herbal wormer, and if you haven't used alot of this type of wormer in your area it should work, but worming with it monthly is going to build resistance, so once again fecal sample once in awhile to make sure you aren't seeing resistance. The Herbal wormer is fine for folks who live up north, just remember the information on how wonderful it works compared to Ivomectin is a childs science fair project. Vicki

I have used the herbal wormer for a year and am happy with the results. I do my own fecals so I know it's working. HOWEVER, I live in northern California where we don't get alot of worm load in our pasture. Vicki is right, just because it works for me, doesn't mean it is right for your herd. You have to do fecals to know for sure.

We're going to try the Golden Blend, alternated with Cydectin. Will let you know the results. We hit the girls with Cydectin before be moved to "goat virgin" land here in Arkansas. But jeez that stuff is expensive. We're experimenting and will let you know how it turns out. And maybe I'll finally get the microscope from Oklahoma in the next trip???

I have been using the Hoegger's Herbal Wormer with very good success. Once a year, during the summer after all kidding is over with and before breeding again, I dose the entire herd using Ivermectin. I then doese once a month with the Hoegger's wormer. This approach is the ONLY method that has actually work for me and it has worked well on the whole herd. I collect fecal specimens and have my vet test for worms.
