I have a Type B camera (EOS 1000FN) and an EZ Speedlite (430EZ).

When I put my camera in M mode, the flash still shows A-TTL, and half-pressing the shutter button causes the useless A-TTL preflash to go off. Of course, since I do not have an EOS 1, 630 or RT, there is no underexposure warning on the camera.

FWIW, I also get A-TTL displayed when using my Elan 7E, which is a recent type A camera body.

Where did you read the incorrect information that the display was supposed to indicate TTL only?

Hm. I've tried my 430EZ on two type B cameras (10s and Elan) and in both cases the flash unit switches to TTL when the camera body is set to M mode.

This appears to be normal, as stated on page 47 of the 430EZ manual. I've no idea why a camera would use the flash in A-TTL mode since that mode is useless outside P mode.

Hmm. My old 430EZ (now put to work mostly as a manual-power slave) tonight decided to show TTL in all camera modes :-( Must be time for service. From previous reports about this flash, this will not be the first time this has happened :-(

Have you tried a fresh set of batteries? My 430EZ starts doing strange random things when the batteries are low.

My 430EZ is healthy again. I cleaned the hotshoe and flashshoe with some isopropanol (rubbing alcohol).
