what filter should i buy for EOS 3000n

i am new in photography and my EOS 3000n was a gift. it was bought for $300 plus 25% tax. i don't know what i need to buy to protect the lens. should i get a filter or a hood? and what kind? lastly, did we get it for a good price? thanks. sheree (the_fox123@yahoo.com)

No state in the Union charges 25% tax! New York's, which is high, is 8.25%!

A UV filter is good protection for your lens. Tiffin is a good brand; B+W makes some of the highest quality ones.

Check to see what size filter you need.

Hood are good too, for blocking stray light as well as for protection.

dear sheree buy a skylight or a uv filter that fits your lens. keep it attached always to the lens. u also need a blower brush with a soft cloth to clen the filer reguylarly. the hood is used to protect the lens from stray rays and is not for its protection. happy clicking swapnil
