where to get colored leg bands (poultry)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi -- been poking around on the internet and in the archives... the only supplier I founf on the internet is Kemp's Koop, but they only have a single color of leg bands. I know I've seen several colors in the past, but I can't remember where. I'd like to be able to use alternating colors in alternating years in my laying flock. I have a bunch of 2+ year old who need to be culled, and a bunch of new ones coming up that I'd like to band, so I can tell them apart from the next batch I get in the fall.

Thanks!

I found them at Berry Hill Limited in St. Thomas, Ontario. www.BerryHillLimited.com or 1-800-668-3072

I believe this place is similar to a company called Lehman's in the US. I'm sure someone else can post with their information for you. Or try a search here for Lehman's.

Andrea, there are many suppliers of leg bands on the LINKS on the Poultry Forums. You might start with www.poultryconnection.com and check them out. I use Seven Oaks Game Farm, they have dozens of sizes of bands in many different colors. Their addy: http://www.poultrystuff.com/ps/ They will be happy to send you a catalog or just the page of bands if you e mail them. Claude McCallister is the head honcho and is very nice to deal with. Hope this helps, LQ

Some folks use cable ties. They come in various sizes and you can cut off any excess. The hardware stores carry them in various colors.

The last time I bought leg bands at the feed store they were very expensive. So I checked out nationalbrands.com & they are quite resonable. If I need more I'm getting them there.
