Gosling walking

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am a classroom teacher who has had a student bring in some goose eggs. We have been successful in getting many of the eggs to hatch, and have the right equipment. Our oldest goose is 4 days old and walks with his legs spread out and his belly almost flat on the ground. He does not straighten up his legs and walk upright. Is this something I should be concerned about? Is there a certain length of time before the goose will walk properly?

This happened with a mallard duckling of mine. As I recall, it can be a sign of the gosling being too cold. But, the big thing to check is what you're feeding it. Deficiencies in nutrients will cause these kinds of symptoms. There are other causes, some of which may be contagious diseases......PLEASE call a vet!
