EOS 1 in spot metering overexposes by one third

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

In other metering modes it showes correct exposure. I mesured the same subject by A2 and seconic flashmeter for comparison. They shows quite similar results. Is it normal for EOS 1 spot meter slightly overexpose?

The EOS 1 body that I have got was used as a demo and it seems that it was stayed at shelf at least last few years without battery.

As I recall, the spot meter on the 1 (and 1n) have a different spectral response then the other metering modes. If your subject has a lot of, for example, red, then you may see metering differences.

Also, the different coverage of the spot meter might be giving you different reults unless you are metering a uniform subject.

Either way I'm not at all suprised to see 1/3 stop difference.

i'm not surprised, either. the EOS 5/A2 has half-stop increments, whereas the 1N has the choice of 1/3 stop increments. You can't compare these two, especially not for a measly 1/3 stop. not to mention, like bob mentioned above, that the size of the spot (3.5% vs. 2.4%, i think) affects exposure if you're not careful. my suggestion: worry about other things in life.

Thank you for your answers! Them help me to think more about photography, not about exposure correction :-)
