Good prices on implements?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I've about given up on finding decent used 60" implements. I've been to a couple auctions and all I've seen is junk I wouldn't take as a gift. I'm now looking at new and would like to get some input as to the brand and pricing I've found.

I've found King Kutter brand 60" box blade for $300 and the same brand 60" brush hog for $550 at my neighborhood Tractor Supply Company store. If I get lucky and find some with some shipping scars they'll discount them 10%. Anyone have any advice or input for me?

Some people swear by King Kutter (KK). The KK stuff I've seen, IMO wasn't built for heavy duty use. I've always found patience was the best way to get a good deal. If you wait and actively look, you'll find the deals.

King Kutter is sold around here by Atwoods. They look just a little flimsy to me, but I ain't no expert! As far as farm sales go I usually find things that are still in really good condition sell for way more than my pocketbook can stand. I have had better luck dealing with a reputable dealer. Sometimes they like to get rid of thier stuff cheap after it has set around and got a little surface rust or scratched up some.

Gary, Make sure you know what TSC product your getting. While TSC carried KK equipment they have moved to Wallace brand items. Check the tag, most KK should have been sold last year, new stock would be wallace. I have a 4ft wallace bush hog and its fine for what I needed. Its not real heavy duty, but I am just wacking tall grass in my small pasture. If your dont need heavy duty then why pay extra. Take it slow the first time through the field to clean out any larger obsticles, after that not much is going to grow that the wallace cant handle.

Gary I don't know how heavy of a piece of equipment you are looking for but here in Tennessee we have rural king stores and they have some real nice 60" equipment for real nice prices. You can get a medium grade bush hog for about $450 and the box blades are about $250 to $300. I have a friend that buys and sells and trades in used farm equipment and he totally rebuilds everything that he gets and I bought a 60" bush hog from him that looked a little rusty but the crankcase and shaft was all totally new for $200. You might want to look at some different places before paying a lot of money for some new equipment. Hope this helps
