Seriously! In another thread concerning icky foods, I mentioned that years ago I had eaten this stuff before I knew what it was called and more importantly what it was made of..it was fried and it was GOOD...so I got to wondering if it would be on the internet as a recipe..I typed it in quotes and searched..lo and behold, there it was all over the place!!!! Under Southern foods using a quart of pig's blood...as well as foods of Scottish origin...my maiden name was Bruce and I can tell you, MY ancestors never put THIS on the table LOL LOL..have fun looking it up..maybe you'd care to try it??? Pardon me while I go have some Tums now....I cannot believe I actually have eaten this in my life.

Lesley, My mother used to eat some gaggy stuff called blood sausage. I wonder if its the same?

I have one in the fridge now. We butchered in Feburary and I had to take at least one so as not to offend. The older folks who I butcher w/ love the stuff. Can't be all that bad for ya, they average about 75 and can work me into a sweat! I guess if I hadn't helped make it I might be more inclined to eat some.

Gloria, probably, couldn't possibly be MORE than one kind of that stuff could there????? John, the funny thing is that it was truly delicious..if they hadn't told me what it was, I would have downed tons of it gladly, but my brain immediately rejected the concept permanetly..in later years I saw it neatly wrapped in the supermarket in Boston and appropriately labeled, so I guess folks must buy it as well as make it themselves on the farm..what I got a kick out of when I did the search was so many claims to it! The Black folks in Boston whom I had supper with in the 60s told me it was a Black thing going back ages and ages to Africa....the internet said it was a Scottish thing going back ages and ages to Scotland, a Black thing going back ages and ages to Southern USA, AND a Romanian thing going back ages and ages to Romania......hee hee hee..as if it were really cool that so many cultures wanted to claim it as theirs!!!!!!!!!! I'll stick with homemade ravioli that nice old Mrs. Pafetti taught me to make..she was from Sicily...nobody gags when I make that.

Back in 1954, my room-mate (we were student nurses living in dorm) brought blood pudding from home. She thought it was the best thing in the world. I couldn't even LOOK at it, let alone taste it! At home, when we butchered, we used almost everything but we didn't use the blood!
