Tuition-Free Middle School Science Certification Program

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Middle School Science : One Thread

City College is planning a tuition-free certification program for uncertified science teachers in New York City. The program leads to certification and a master's degree designed specifically for middle school science teachers. Application deadline is May 17 for summer school enrollment, so let me know if you need an application and get those transcripts in order! Did I mention that it's TUITION-FREE?

Hey I'm gonna be certified by the end of this teaching year. I applied to CCNY for Fall enrollment a Master's in Science. I can't take classes until August this summer. Are there any benefits for me? Or am I out of luck?

Here's the program overview and application for the CCNY master's program:

If this doesn't work on your computer, go to:

http://www.middleschoolscience.org/license.htm

and click on the "Master's in Science Education Program" link at the top of the page. I am trying to get more info from the program director, which I will post as soon as she return's my calls.

I spoke to Arlene Zimney at CCNY about the program. They have applied to the state for recognition of a master's degree in Middle School Science, to be distinct from the Master's in Secondary Science. This would lead to a newly created license in Middle School Science. If you are an uncertified science teacher in the middle schools then you should apply. If you are a provisionally certified science teacher (you have the science credits but need a master's for permanent certification), you may also apply to this program.

Hope that helps.
