Actually, there is a rumor that Poe fathered a child through Frances Sargent Osgood. John Walsh's book "Plumes in the Dust" tries to make that case, although it fails to do so.

E. A. Poe did have kids, he got involved with a woman name Elizabeth Wills ( it was known later than she would be the mother of their legitemate twins.)
