Cooking Hint of the Day - Mincing Ginger Tip

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

To mince ginger and also get rid of those annoying little fibers, first peel the amount you need with a vegetable peeler.

Then pound the peeled ginger with the back of your knife blade until the pulp separates, leaving the threads behind.

Now you're ready to mince away!

For a further tip, fresh ginger root can be stored in the freezer, well-wrapped to retain its moisture. While still frozen it is fairly easy to peel it and slice off paper-thin shavings. Those shavings are very easy to chop or mince.
