change 6 volt to12 volt on 47 case with Magneto

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have a 47 Case DC . I was told that all I need to do is change my battery , generator and lights to 12 volt . Is this true ? If not what else needs to be done .

The starter will get a bit more stress, but it will not be 'on' as long, so it will handle 12v just fine. There are some generators/alternators that are easier to use than others. You have the basics right, yes.

All this is well covered if you want more info, parts sources, at a discussion web site like this one: www.ytmag.com

Good luck, --->Paul

Also should change the coil and down the road you will want to put on a new condensor.

But you wont really need to change the coil and condensor because you have a magneto!

You can go to a good Auto Electric Dealer and get a 8 volt battery and that is all you will need to change except you need to ground the field on the generator which will bypass the voltage regulator.
