plans for building windmills

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

A friend of mine wants to build a windmill to pump water to her house, from springs in her field. She asked me to post a message on the website, because she doesn't have a computer. If anyone has actual plans for how to build a windmill from start to finish, she would greatly appreciate it. They're current water supply is coming from a hand dug well, and they run out of water ALOT. Unfortunatly, if they drill a well, they will only get sulfur water. They also like the idea of doing it in a less conventional way. Thanks for all your help! Michelle

Michelle, your friend sounds like a real DIY'er. If so, this book might help.

Volunteers in Technical Assistance (VITA) is an organization dedicated to helping 'Red Cross - Peace Corps' type people build projects in third world countries, places where they HAVE to build from scratch, because of lack of funds or transporation. They have a website, www.vita.org, which has some technical pamphlets that will help. They search term might start with "Arusha windmill".

They sell a neat handbook detailing tons of projects for out of the way villages. Try the site, you might find some help here.

If you go into google with "windmill water pump plans" there are 2,480 entries, at least one site should have what your looking for.
