That's the exact problem. Auto focus works fine, but the manual ring doesn't do anything, whether the lens is set to AF or MF.

any ideas before I pack it off to the repair people?

Hi Bob!

Take your lens to the next repair shop (if not already done). I wouldn't try to mess around in an IS lens because the risk of doing more damage is very high.
