Update Basic H poisoning

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just wanted to give an update. Thanks everyone for your responses. The Dexter calf tried to lift her head this morning, and has shown signs of improvement this afternoon. The baby goats don't want to leave the heat lamp yet, but are doing much better.

I placed phone calls everywhere I could think of. Looks like the bottom line is, Basic H is fine in water, but whatever proteins are in the Basic H, when mixed with the proteins in milk, create a deadly poison. One did bloat very quickly and died. But the others were in severe pain, and acting drugged. They had no signs of bloating at all. The calf has had several bowel movements now, but has no strength. I do think she may make it though. Thanks everyone. Please warn others of my deadly mistake. I would hate for anyone to go thru what we have the last two days. I just had no idea there would be a reaction. Yes, the only thing I had heard about was mixed in water, but didn't realize it could "only" be water.

God love ya... What a heartbreaking situation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the babies... Thanks for the update.

I wonder if Basic H has enzymes in it that may be changing the composition of the milk or causing it to sour? I had a nutrition teacher tell a story about her college roommate who was into herbs and suppliments, etc. This gal likes to make milkshakes and mix in all sorts of suppliments. Apparently one time she did this with some sort of digestive enzyme. The result was severe bloating, gas, and diarhea. The girl lived, but apparently was in severe pain and never combined things again. I wonder if that's what happened with your stock?

Through your loss you have saved many more! THANK YOU for posting this information.

I am a BIG Basic H Fan for 30 years....and NOW will NEVER mix with MILK! Just plain dumb luck I never did either!!
