Mine is 20 years old and never replaced, but then I am in South Texas, and we burn about 1/2 a cord each winter.

I get about 5 years on my wood furnace, maybe your slamming the door to hard!! More likely your getting sold cheap gasket as good. Nope I never noticed a difference either before you ask

I'd try a different brand of gasket Stan. Make sure you are getting the right size gasket and chip and wire brush out all the old gasket cement before you cement in the new one.
