Hi again, My doe that just came fresh needs a shot of CD&T, how long after that before we can use the milk for ourselves? Also, she is ddue for worming now and I can't find anything on what wormers are safe to use if the milk is for human consumption. I've been reading and reading trying to learn as much as I can but its comforting to have someone with more experience to ask about it. Thank you! Kathy

I don't think there is a wait after giving CD/T. Safeguard wormer has no withdrawal time. I use Ivomec also. It is used on humans in some countries so I don't worry about it. I have heard people waiting 2 or 3 days after using Ivomec & some that wait a month.

CD&T vaccinations do not affect the milk. I know from testing that Valbazen Drench used at 8 cc per 100 pounds orally has a 36 hour milk withdrawal in good does, 48 hours in poorer milkers. Safeguard, Cydectin etc. all claim to have no milk withdrawal but that is only if you give it at the dosage on the container, and to the species on the container. Ivermectin is supposed to have a milk withdrawal time of a month or more, we WISH that it would stay in the goat and work this long! It is actually pretty tough to get antibitotics into the milking system, so I would bet if tests were actually done on these wormers, on goats, we would find the only residue being the carrier. And Wendy is correct, Ivermectin is a people wormer. Vicki

Wendy and Vicki, Thanks for answering! On the CD&T do I give the 2mL adult dose to the kid also? I found an article on Saanendoah that said vaccinate new kids if unsure whether the mother was vaccinated, but didn't see dosage for kids. Live and learn...Must be the truest words ever!!

Hi, how weird that everyone was posting yesterday when I and I know Denise also couldn't even get this whole forum to come up! Anyway :) 2cc IM or Subq of CD&T no matter what the age, what the breed or what the size of goat. Vicki
