rye hay for horses and dairy goats

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have an opportunity to get some decent rye hay (this years that has just been cut) to feed the horse and the dairy goats. Is it ok or even good for them or is it more suited for cattle? Will it hurt them? Also, it is grown on land that has a commercial poultry operation. Will this cause the hay to be too high in nitrates? Gloria

Rye hay should be great for horses. Just the normal things to watch for, mold and maybe other weeds. I prefer any type of Grass Hay for my horses. Especially if they are not working, you can give them alot and not hurt them.
