EOS Elan III LCD dead. New Battery--no effect

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Took my EOS Elan III up to the mountains. Took last picture on roll, low battery warning during rewind, but got film out okay. It was extremely cold that day. LCD never woke up after I removed the film. Put in new 2CR5 battery (tried another new one, too)-- no effect. LCD completely dead. Camera has been in th home at room temperature for a week. Tried the paper trick, nothing, thoroughly cleaned contacts--nothing. Is there a reset button on the body? Any theories?

Sorry--that's an EOS Elan II.

Hi Brad,

I had this same problem last year with my Elan IIE, and spoke to several others that had the same problem as well. It kept happening to me when I was trying to shoot indoor portraits. Sometimes it would do it and other times not.

Finally I sent it to Canon who fixed it. They said they had to make a minor adjustment to the switch, presumably the one that turns it on. Hope this helps.
