Posted this over on CS, but thought it might fit well over here also. Buy a 10 cent pack of seeds and start them in the greenhouse or seedling house so that the tomato, bell pepper and jalepeno plants are six to ten inches tall at season's start (30 to 60 days typically). Sell them for $1 to $2 apiece at your local swap meet, trade day, flea market or sell them off your porch. 10 cent decorative flowers packs can make up to five arrangements valued at $5 to $10 apiece depending on the type of flora incorporated.

Sounds good, but what about the cost of pots and potting soil? Jill

Jill,

Using vermicompost, solar oven sterilized yard soil, kitty litter, newspaper and plastic stadium cups for seedling medium adds only $0.015 to the "per unit" production costs.
