legitimate correspondence school for herbology or herbalist

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

The topics of herbal remedies and health for animals and humans has prompted me to ask if anyone has information on legitimate correspondence schools for herbology or herbalist training. I have been contemplating further study in this field, but need a lot more information. I am currently a RN with an Associates Degree in Science. I have been licensed for 8 years, working in surgery most of that time. Any comments, help, direction, or suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Find out which licensing board issues the licenses you are looking at, in the states you are interested in practicing in. Then contact these boards and ask for a listing of approved program. If the program provides information on this, double-check it with the appropriate state agency.

Gina, I have taken a Master Herbalist course through Trinity College of Natural Health. I thought it was excellent. They also have a Nutritional Counseling Certificate and Doctor of Naturopathy. There is also an organization called Certified Natural Health Professionals that holds seminars all over the US. I have also attended these seminars and they are extremely well done and well worth the time and money. They are weekend seminars which present lots of teaching in a short time. I have attended 8 of them now and can hardly wait to go to the next one, they are so amazing.

The web sites are: www.cnhp.org and www.trinityschool.org. I hope this helps. There always were lots of RN's in my classes. They got really excited about the natural therapies, for many it changed their whole lives. Marilyn CNHP, MH

Hi Gina, I am taking classes through Herbal Healer Academy. They have a whole array of Holistic Health classes including a course in Naturopathy. I like the program but would suggest you contact them to see if your goals can be met through their program. www.herbalhealer.com Blessings, Kathy

The American Herbalist Guild is the only organization which "certifies" herbalists in the United States. You can find out about their education guidelines at their website, www.americanherbalist.com

Since you are an RN, have you considered a speciality in Holistic Nursing? The American Holistic Nurse's Association should have more information, their website is www.ahna.org

Our N.D. trained through Dr. John R. Christopher's School of Natural Healing (Springville, UT). I know of others who also trained through this program. I have Dr. Christopher's book by the same name and learned first of the school through the book. I hope for the opportunity to train through them one day. their website address is: www.schoolofnaturalhealing.com Another course you might look into is Dr. Humbart Santillo's . His book is excellent, and that is the basis upon which my interest in his correspondence was first aroused. I have not obtained any further information about his course, however; only read of it in his book, and cannot offer more info. His book (Natural Healing with Herbs)is concise and authoritative. Misnamed however, (I think), as it covers much more than exclusively the use of herbs. More like a naturopathic PDR.
