Lisa, depending on where you live, you might be required to have a license to sell eggs to a store. I think you go throught the Dept. of Agriculture and you are inspected something like once a year. You might check out the older posts about this at the bottom of the page. Most of us sell eggs to friends, neighbors, and co-workers with no problem. Best wishes!

A few years ago I was able to sell my eggs at a" Natural" food store. No problem with the state at that time...PA. Since had closed. We live close to the NY border and that state needs inspection and all the fussin' etc and the store there doesn't purchase from individuals. I do take my eggs when I have too, too many to the local animal auctions and they sell them through the auction for the highest bidder. That is also PA. I see signs on the road for selling eggs so I guess it would depend on what state you were in and the laws for egg selling. I sometimes just give them away. You would think you would need to be careful with egg selling just as in selling raw milk ( not many states allow that thought) because it was always my feelings that if the people that bought somehow got sick for any unknown reason they would blame it on your eggs. There is a responsiblity to the public for the safety of the eggs you would be selling. A guess there is a lot to consider before you would make your first millions in the egg business. Hope this helps !!!

Hello Lisa, Unfortunately for health and safety reasons, we are unable to sell our home grown eggs to restaurants, stores, etc. We sell them to individuals for $1.00 a dozen.

Sincerely,

Ernest

Lisa, I asked the people at the school where I work, but they seemed sceptical about eggs that didn't come from the grocer. Anyway, I advertised in our local small town paper, and I deliver. I have been able to "find a home" for all my eggs weekly. At this time I only get a dozen a day, so mine is not too hard to keep ahead of. Good luck!

I have sold my eggs at our local food co-op (health food store). Their only criteria ia that the feed I feed not have any animal protein. They bought my eggs for $1.50 a dozen. I sold them from my place for $2.00 and had a waiting list.

Lisa--in Illinois you must have a license and inspections by dept of ag to sell to a store. We can't sell them at the Farmer's Market, either. If we label them as ungraded eggs, and customers come to the farm to get them, and promise not to use them for resale, refrigerate them, and not eat them raw, we can sell them. We find they make lovely presents to the neighbors and friends, and we provided the local shelter with a gazillion eggs until the hens slowed down their production. They are probably the most expensive eggs in the county; but they are also the most beautiful.
