Recycling ideas for metal CD cases? (or... I hate AOL!)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm gearing up for a cross-country move (finally to the homestead!!) in a couple of months, so I'm trying to quell my packrat impulses until then. Still, I can't stand to throw out those metal canister things that AOL is sending out their promo CDs in. WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH THEM??? Surely some of you folks have come up with a perfect use? Thanks!

I have seen them used in apple country (the disc that is) like flash tape to keep the birds out of the tree. they are so shiney they work as well as the tape, and the price is right.

Our local cubscout pack saves them and we use them during campouts for a hike in the woods (marking the trail for an evening walk). It's really cool when the boys shine their flashlights on them :-) I also use them hanging in the garden for bird patrol.

Hello Witness,

I had about six of them sent to me this winter. I drilled a hole at the end of each on and glued spring pictures from a contry magazine on them and made a mobile. It cheered me up and gave me a cute craft to make with the kids.

Sincerely, Ernest

witness, if you are talking about cases, then I would love to help you recycle some. My kids have gotten some CD-ROMs that came without a case. I can't stand to have loose CDs. If you'd be interested in sending some to me instead of the landfill I'd appreciate it!

Write "RETURN TO SENDER" and put back in your mail box.

Those things are perfect for holding small fabric pieces for quilting! Great for keeping a partially assembled block in one place until you get it all put together, especially if you want to take a hand quilting project with you somewhere.

I saw a craft where the kids used the cd cases to make a card. Decorate the paper and slip it in where the cd's 'cover usually is and there is a fancy card for grandma that lasts a while and sltands up1 I think you could wrangle that idea around and do sort of a photo frame affair too.
