Is my film advancing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

This is the first time I've ever used black and white film. On the bottom left hand corner of the screen, there is the symbol that would usually show that you need to take out the film. However, I still have 5 pictures left. The numbers (that say how many pictures you have left) still seem to be working. Is the film advancing? Is it because of the B/W film? Did I just not load it prop

The camera itself can't tell the difference between B/W and color--so that's not the problem. Maybe you did not load properly, or maybe you're getting more than 36 exposures from the roll, which is very common.

Just rewind the film (using the midroll rewind button), get it developed, and see what happened.

Good luck!

Are you shooting a roll of 36 exposure film thinking it's 24?

Does your camera prewind (wind all the film to the end when you load it) and indicate the total number of frames remaining? Or does it wind frame by frame until then end, at which point it rewinds?

When you say there's a symbol indicating you need to take out the film. Do you mean the circular "film present" icon? Is it flashing or steady? If it's steady you're fine - it just means the camera has film. If it's flashing then either the film is jammed or you need to rewind. However, most cameras rewind automatically when you're done unless you've set a specific option.

In short, you haven't given enough information to answer your question very accurately. What model camera are you using? The camera neither knows nor cares whether the film is colour or B&W.
