low fat pizza receipe

Does anyone have a good low-fat pizza receipe? I am on weight watchers and our family makes home made pizza on fridays family night") the dough receipe from our bread machine isn't very low fat. thanks, Deb

You could try using a true sourdough bread dough (just flour, salt, water, and of course the starter) as your crust, and low-fat everything else, or just skipping the cheese would help immensely.

Only trouble with true sourdough (I use the recipe from the Tightwad Gazette book) is that you can't make them properly in the bread machine--something about the metal causing the starter not to rise properly.

I like to use low fat flour tortillas as the crust for lower fat individual pizzas. They bake up fast and crunchy. Put a tortilla in a pie pan, top it with whatever you want and bake it for about 10 minutes or so, until the edges are brown. Watch closely the first time or two so they don't burn. If the bread machine bread pan still has a good non-stick coating it should not interfer with the sourdough.

You can make pizza dough without fat but it will be a little on the tough side.

How about saving up your fat allowance for the day and use it in the pizza dough. If you juggle the points just right you will be able to enjoy a slice of pizza but not all you want.

A secret in making pizza dough, mix, knead, let rest 20 minutes, then knead again, shape. The rest allows the dough to relax and not buck so much while spreading out. You will be able to spread dough out thinner therefore reducing carbs, calories, points per slice.

I never add fat to my pizza dough and it does just fine. We like it nice and crusty. I put unglazed quarry tiles on the bottom of my oven (gas), heat them up good with the oven on about 500 degrees. If you have an electric stove with the heating element on the floor of the oven, you can put the tiles on the bottom rack and have it as low as it will go. Heat it up well, if I was using an electric oven, I'd probably turn it up as high as it will go. I used to try to slide the pizza directly onto the tiles by using corn meal on the peel or pan that I make it on, but hated having to clean all that cornmeal out of the oven. Now I use one of the heavy aluminum pizza pans that has all the small holes in it. I put it directly on tomp of the quarry tiles on the bottom of the oven. One of those pizza stones would work the same way. Crust is crispy and no messy cornmeal.

Try using whole wheat toast or whole wheat english muffins. They are low in fat and you can use lots of veggies(0 points) and low fat mozz. cheese. That ought to cut down on a lot of points. Look on the back of a smart ones box and see how they make their low cal. pizza.
