ATTENTION PHOTOGRAPHERS, ARTISTS & CREATIVE PEOPLE YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN THE 2ND WORLDWIDE PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

The Second Annual Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day will be Sunday, April 28, 2002 and pinhole photographers from around the world are invited to participate in this global event that will be seen in an exhibition on the internet. Continuing the tradition established in the first Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, photographers will make pinhole photographs during the twenty-four hour period of April 28, 2002. The photographs can be submitted to the coordinating team for publication in the gallery at http://www.pinholeday.org.

The Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day was created in 2001 and was celebrated by more than 300 participants. Join the thousands of professional and amateur photographers around the world, all seduced by the beauty of these often-surreal images. Make a photograph on April 28 and be a part of a collective celebration of life's rhythm. The imagination of pinhole photographers knows no limits -- these lensless cameras range from a simple oatmeal box to a transformed camping van. Transform any light-tight container and join in the excitement.

Surely, this event is 27 days too late?

Hi Pete.

I don't understand about "too late." Too late for what? The event happens on 28 April of this year, which is 20 days from now.

I can't wait! After that Sunday, check back at the site www.pinholeday.org and you will see the beginnings of the gallery. All posts will be in by 31 May.

27 days too late, as in 27 days past April fool's day.

-- Pete Andrews (p.l.andrews@bham.ac.uk), April 09, 2002.

No, actually we would be 336 days too soon. If you want to see what happened last year, check out http://www.pinholeday.org It's pretty cool.

You may have noticed, Pete, that the dry British sense of humour is largely lost on us Americans.

Despite my attempted jibe at the surreal concept of a "Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day"; I think a great number of the pictures from last years event are extremely good.
In fact, I think the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Gallery should be made compulsory viewing for all techno-freaks and gear-heads.
It shows without a doubt that beautiful and stimulating pictures can be made with the most minimal of apparatus. Most definitely an antidote to the obsession with equipment and image sharpness that photography tends to generate, and not to be missed, IMHO.

I wished I had known. My next step with my obsession is definetely in the pinhole area. Right now I`m getting the feel of my new Holga, and I`ve been taking shots around the school(I teach English in Japan). I had wanted a Holga for some time and(oh yes!)bought one through a local camera store(w/ polaroid back). So, I`m marking this day down on the calendar...esp. if it`s on the net. Not all photographers out here are obsessed with sharpness and are `tech heads`(I love messy photography...no photo school for me, my BA is from a liberal arts university. BTW...to the british gent with the april fools jest...that was so funny i went to slap my knee, missed and broke my leg hitting the floor.

It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO on the net. And if you take a peek, there are 830 plus submissions. I love especially the elementary children's attempts. You can barely see the imagery. Hook 'em early, I say.

Hey, sorry about your leg....you must be 60 days too late. ;-) rosanne
