A pressing quilt tip

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

Its important to keep your seams neatly pressed when constructing quilt blocks. In regular sewing, you press seams open. In Quilting, you press seams to one side-uasually the darker fabric side. Pressing is when you just set your iron down on the seams-you dont slide the iron, you just lift it up and set it down until the whole seam is flat. Its good to press your seams this way. Then you can flip your block over, and Iron it-which is the familar sliding back and forth on the fabric movement. Remember-press down, iron across.

Yes, thank you. I also never knew that. Guess that is one of the things the books don't mention and you miss out on when you are self- taught.
