Single man's trick to keep celery from wilting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Country Singletree : One Thread

Since returning to the single life, I have relearned a lot of the old standards, but married life spoiled me on some aspects , like food. Canned slop and TV dinners don't get it anymore and my vegetables die a wilted death before I have a chance to use them up. While leaving as much as I can planted (like greens) until I use them, the celery succumbed quick. My solution was to quit putting it in the fridge. Now I take the celery and strip the stalks, clean them and put them in a container of sugar spiked water in the seedroom under the grow lights so they continue photosynthesizing. No more wilted celery and the puny heart goes there also to rejuvinate and get transplanted.

Maybe after they're re-established, I can just pull the stalks I need. My goal is to keep my food budget at home to under $30 a month so I have more to spend on "courtin'" :>)

Jay can't you also dehydrate the celery for later use? You could add the dehydrated vegies to your sales items too. Package them up for campers.
