Canon converters

I've checked canon spec's and unless I'm missing something other than price....what's the difference between the canon converters I and II??

The 1.4x or the 2x converter? They version II's have added weather proofing O-rings on the mount, to match up with the new tele-lenses & the mount on the 1v. That and a cosmetic update are the only differences with the 2x, but the 1.4x has a slightly different optical formula. Or maybe it's the other way around.

It's the other way around. The 2x Extender II has improved enough that droves of great white lens shooters are selling the old version to buy the new one.

The improved optical performance of the new 2x is said by many people to be marginal. I have the old 1.4x and the new 2x and I get good results from both. Both the new extenders have the weatherproofing.

A comparison test of the two converters, with samples, can be found at http://www.luminous-landscape.com/c-ext.htm

I discuss these TCs on my equipment reviews page
