cable release

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Ok- dumb question - Do they make a cable release for the 650? I don't see anywhere on the bidy that it would attach - I recently acquired trhe camera, I just got the manual for it - it doesn't say anything in the manual. I bought a 400mm zoom and I could really use the cable release - it makes it a lot easier while using a tripod.

Not sure about the 650 but I know on the 630 you need to change the standard grip to a GR-20, which has the electronic remote release socket built in. I'm not sure if the GR-20 fits the 620/650 or not. If not, then you can't use a remote unless you get one of those velcro fatening "kluge" releases that allows a mechanical cable release to depress the shutter button (available from Porters.com I think).

The 650, like the 630, needs the GR-20 grip in order to attach an electronic cable release. You might be able to find one at http://www.keh.com/ or a local used camera joint.

The GR-20 is a rare piece in high demand. If you cannot find one, there are alternatives:
