Battery error

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Have BC error on my display screen but batteries are brand new, and i've just cleaned (well i think i have) lens/camera contacts as well as battery/camera contacts as suggested in a previous messages. It's an eos88/3000 and is relatively new (bought over 1 1/2 yrs ago) and nothing has been wrong with it so far. I was able to take one photo before it locked up on me. Any help would be great as this is driving me up the wall.

Blinking BC error could mean malfunction in camera, lens, or flash. You could try another combination of lens/camera or flash, but it might be time for the service centre.

Good luck.

Definitly try it without a lens or flash attached, but if it still fails, it needs to be repaired.

I'm most familiar with the EOS 1V and 1N cameras, and I'm not familiar with the camera you mention. That said, IF your camera has a "reset" button or function (carefully read the owner's manual), I would try re-setting the camera before you ship it off to Canon for servicing. Also, you wrote, "...Have BC error on my display screen but batteries [plural] are brand new..." Try loading the appropriate model of single-piece, lithium battery (type 2CR5?) instead of two AA batteries, since the AAs may not be making good contact, and this is a well-known source of problems with some EOS cameras.

Actually, the EOS 3000 uses two CR123A batteries. Most new Canons do - Canon seem to have decided that two expensive CR123As are preferable to one less expensive 2CR5.

Nonetheless it's a good idea to try the camera with a couple of pairs of fresh batteries to see if that's the problem.

****I NEED HELP**** I just bought a Rebel 2000 last month. I took a few rolls of film with it. Now when I push the shutter button the shutter closes and stays closed. I have to push the button again to get the shutter to open. No picture is taken and the film doesn't advance. I took the lens off and reseated it and it worked for one picture, then did the same thing. I also replaced the batteries and it took a few pictures. But when I put it away for the night and tried it the next day, it crapped out on me again. Can anyone help me. please e-mail me @ briankbax@hotmail.com

Hi Brian,

Is your month-old REBEL 2000 covered by warranty?
