How do I get a old leather bag back pliable?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I found my old leather bag that we used to keep farm tack in. It has become very hard but not yet brittle. What's a cheap way to get it back pliable?

Thanks for your help.

Answers

mink oil,, or boot oil,, baseballglove oil,, those wont break down the leather

At the leather shop, I was told Crisco or oil works just as good too.

crisco could be used,,if it wasnt already dried out,, Id go with the leather oil,, till its pliable again,, then keep it up with crisco
