photography vest

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I just got some prime lenses:specifically an ef 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, 135mm f/2.0 and now need a vest because I would previously just stick on a zoom and go. And now I need to change lenses sometimes, so if anyone has any recommendations or advice I would appreciate it.

Sajeev

Read his question before answering or asking further questions. He is asking for recommendations or advice on buying a photographers vest so that he can keep all his lenses in it while he works.

I bought the Domke a couple of months ago and I adore it. I only take it off to sleep and have sex. :) However, putting large lenses in the pockets makes it sag, and it does become a bit heavy and uncomfortable. You might look into the Lowepro Street & Field system.

BTW, you have a fine selection of lenses. I foolishly sold off my EOS system a couple of years ago to go digital and I really missed the 135 f/2L. Now I'm rebuilding and I hope to take delivery on another 135 f/2L very soon. My current Pride & Joy is the 85mm f/1.2L.

Marc, I also use primes: 28/2.8, 50/1.4, 100/2, 200/2.8. I frequently hike with these lenses. I carry two or three of them in a Tamrac Superlight 5 - shown here, top row on the right http://www.tamrac.com/welcome.htm

I attach an EOS 3 or Elan 7 w/ lens to a monopod or just carry it, and put the bag over my sholder with the strap across my chest and change lenses as required. This is not the advice you asked for, but I mention it because your gear is close to mine in size and weight (minus the wide angle, which is very compact). The bag is small, affordable, and very functional. I also carry batteries, film, keys, and cleaning gear and keep my pockets empty.

I don't like the idea of carrying my 200/2.8 in a vest pocket - too heavy (1.7 lbs - same weight as your 135/2) - and I'm rarely willing to leave it behind.

Did you consider buying the Lowepro belt/harness system. You can customize it to suit whatever lens you are using with the different pouches that Lowepro has. Check it out. I use it and I love it!

Kinesis makes a very flexible belt system and with the optional suspenders I can carry a very heavy complimet of lenses quite comfortably. Check out www.kinesis.com
