Ice storm

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

After an entire winter of listening to the "weather actors" telling us that "it's 20 degrees above normal for this date", we're having them tell us that it's 20 degrees below normal for this date. This morning, we woke up to 1/4 inch of ice on everything; a high of only freezing predicted and more ice again in the predictions for tonight.

My mother always used to say that the day the chicks came would be the worst day of the year and, sure enough, our chicks are to come about 1:30 this afternoon! Go figure.

Ah well, this too shall pass. Thank the Lord for a wood stove, wood and, so far, electicity.

Y'all stay warm.

Spring is the most unpredictable of seasons! I don't like ice storms, they always seem to do so much damage to the trees. Stay safe!

I woke this morning to 4 inches of snow on the ground and more falling. Yet 50 miles south of me where I work the snow was falling but little to no accumulation on the ground.

The kids and I woke up to flooded streets and bitter cold temperatures, even with blankets and umbrella's we still were soaked to the skin when I got the kids to child care this morning. Thank God for dryers and the school for having extra kids clothing. The temperature is dropping as I type this. Brrr. It will probably freeze by lunch time. Not going to be a fun trip home. Everyone keep warm thoughts as summertime is a coming.

We have rain, rain and more rain, and tomorrow even more and tonight's supposed to be heavy rain, and by Wed. morning snow flurries. And lots of wind. When I fed the chickens this morning, they ran from the rain and wind, so I shut their door. Came in and shut my door.

It's started snowing now, so we have ice with snow on top---about 2 inches so far, more just a few miles north, and coming down pretty good. It's a wet snow. Brrrrr. Think this is a soup day.

It is dark & overcast here in our part of Kansas today----the wind is really blowing & holing-----we need rain!!!!

Our ponds are really low----we just need moisture really badly!!!! It is almost time to burn pastures for cattle season----but if we don't get rain--- I'm afraid they will inforce a burn ban----& there will be no pasture burning this year----

Wish we had part of the moisture those who have had the flooding have had--then we could balance it out for them----

It looks like it could rain--or snow----that wind is really bad today- --I pray no fires as dry as it is & that terrible wind--

We had about 2" of snow when I left for work this AM but by 11:30AM when I headed home it was teaming down and still is. I work 1/2 day. We have about 8" or more right now. The birds are really under the feeders in droves. Must go out and stir up the sunflower hauls so that robins can find some insects that are down under them as the ground is not fozen there. I am glad I don't have to go back out to drive any where . So far no ice but if that temp drops that slush will freeze and that will be a mess. No plows have gone by yet. Our schools here are on spring break so the buses don't have to run. Seems when school is in session the plows are little more visible. Every one drive safely if you have to go out. Billie NE OH

Wow I can't believe how fast the temperature is dropping. We have several flood alerts and freeze advisory. I would love to pass the water on to Kansas. You are in our prayers. Prayer the ice doesn't knock out electricity.
