I just bought a legal for tade price computing deli scale. Nasty price, $550. TEC 2200 Still you could get by with a smaller scale too, and maybe you don't need the price computing option? Here's some sites I had bookmarked. Scale buyers guide Legal for trade.com Scales Galore Another sales site Itin scales Used scales Used Scales.com

Check with your state government. If you are using for yarn, you may be able to advertise as "approx weight". The other thing to consider is that in some states, your scale has to be tested and registered by the state to be consider "Legal for Sales". In NH, the Dept. of Agriculture has a group called the Division of Weights and Measures. They check scales, gas pumps, and actually have authority over an individual advertising a cord of firewood for sale. They test scales and gas pumps and put a state seal on the item with a date for the item to be retested.

Hi, Ebay is a good idea,, but I do not know if I want to give all the info they seem to want.

And goodness,, I didn`t know one might have to have the scale checked. But thank you for telling me. I guess I will have to ask around. I just spin some of my sheep`s wool, is something I enjoy. But because my husband was laid off, I will need to sell some of my handspun yarn. It`s not like I would make alot of money, but might help out with food. Sigh ~ ~

There won`t be anyone in Kitsap county, WA that has a scale that can weigh Ounces??

Maybe a small store or butcher shop would weigh it for you? I like the using an approximate weight idea. Most office supply stores have a range of postal scales that sell reltively cheap. Unless your going to weigh it as you sell it I doubt anyone would even check your weights, but even if they do just sell 4.5 oz as 4 and your OK. Where are you going to sell your wool?

I'd say "approx. weight" ought to be OK, but DO check.

Assuming that's OK, then do approx. weight, but throw in just a little extra (say 5%) to be on the safe side. Use a cheap (say kitchen) scale, but get a couple of old weights for the old-fashioned balance scales, get them weighed on a certified scale so you know how much they REALLY weigh, then use them regularly to make sure your cheap scale isn't going off. Actually, you could use a couple of stones to check that much, provided you knew how much they REALLY weighed.

Postage scales are a possibility too - they have to be accurate at the ranges they measure.

Good Idea, I have a small post office near me. Though I do not know if they would let me use it. Guess I should at least ask.

I will be selling my wool yarn on my web page. This yarn is two ply, a medium loft, is 20% llama and 80% Brecknock Hill Welsh Cheviot. In a nice rich brown with just a little white wool here and there. :O)

If you want a good, used one go to your next local police auction. Ours has many of these every six months at their sale. Most are confiscated in arrests, used as evidence then sold. Three guesses as to what they've been used to weigh that resulted in the arrest of the previous owner. ;o)
