Garage into Greenhouse

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We have a very old (but in good shape) one car garage. We would like to convert it to a greenhouse/shed for as little money as possible. It's wood with a shingled roof. Any suggestions? Deb

Sky lights made from old windows, and lots of scrape windows for the sides.

Clear or light green fiberglass courgated panels. We buy the slightly damaged ones around here for $4 for a 10 ft x 2 1/2 foot sections.

Insulate the north side of the building. A ceiling fan would be a good idea too. Remove roof from south side, assuming you have a standard gable end roof aligned east/west with the long side facing south, and replace it with clear fiberglass panels. Fiberglass panels on south wall. Be sure to stain the exposed framing lumber with white MILDEWCIDE stain to prevent premature rotting of the wood.
