Henry Field and Gurneys Ordering Caution

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Just a word of caution if you have recently, or plan to order, seeds from either Henry Fields or Gurneys (over 50 differant varieties of seeds - $225 order). I had placed an order to both on March 1. I had not yet recieved the orders, nor did I recieve a response to my emails I sent 4 days ago requesting status of the order. So today I called to check on the order. I was told by both places that ALL SEEDS are on back order and they have no indication of when they will be able to fill the orders. They insist it has nothing to do with the new takeover due to the previous bankruptcy. Not just that, but I was on the phone for over an hour because they could not locate either order (even though I had provided all the information as well as the confirmation order number). I asked why they did not notify me of the backorder status or why no one had responded to my email requests; however, they said they offered no response other than, "I don't know".

I had to speak to 2 differant customer service reps at Henry Fields to cancel the order since it will be too late to start the seeds and 3 customer service reps at Gurneys (who the first one insisted that the order had been shipped already even though the order showed it was backordered. Shipped when I asked?...funny thing...just went out today..LOL! Well found out from the 2nd and 3rd reps that it did NOT go out and was, in fact, backordered with no indication of a shipping date). At this point I am still not sure my credit card has been credited for the cancelled orders. I am dreading having to go through that one if not!

They sucked us in with that $20 off on all $40 orders or more and now can't fill any orders at all. Go figure. I will let you know what happens.

Karen-

If you used your credit card to pay for the purchase the seller is required to ship the product within 30 days of charging your account, or offer to refund your money. There are suposedly some strict laws in place governing this- don't know how strictly it is enforced but it might be worth a call or email to your state's consumer affairs dept. to find out.

You should call your credit card provider now, and speak to a supervisor if you can't get the service rep to understand your query. Tell them that you have spoken to them (Guerney's) twice and want to find out exactly what you must do should they fail to provide the product to you, as you think they will. I suppose you should first verify that they did charge your card:). It'll be okay, but it may take a couple of months to completely finish it. Thanks for the warning and best of luck with this!

Well, I got sucked in with that same offer from Gurney's. I haven't received anything yet either. I also ordered from PineTree Seeds on the same day. Pinetree had cashed the check on March 4. I still haven't received a thing from them. I hope they don't have the same problem. More than anything else, I just hope they ship my order some time, as I paid by check and it will be a lot more difficult for me to get my money back.

Karen, sorry to hear about your troubles. I ordered from Henery Fields abd already recieved the order. Gurneys on the other hand, who knows when I'll get it.

My Pinetree order came in complete yesterday, and the strawberry plants I ordered from Gurneys came in today. Maybe they are beginning to get their act together.

I just can't understand what these problems are. I have ordered for both these catlogs for years and have this spring with no problems ever.I will keep ordering from them both. I have had the same problems with major store catlogs with clothing orders. So should I put out bad web pages on them to? I know lots of times other comoanies want you to so that it benfits them. I'll stick with my judgement.
