3/16 mtg. Press Release

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Diversity coalitions : One Thread

Hello to everyone,

It was a pleasure to meet such caring and intelligent people last Saturday at the Schiff's. As I've told Jim & Tobe, my faith is restored knowing we have Marino, Kathy & Neil on the front line. I'm grateful for their willingness to serve.

As you will recall, we agreed to draft a press release announcing the endorsement of our candidates. I emailed a first draft to Jim and Tobe that same afternoon and we continued back and forth all this week.

I was mistaken thinking I only needed the President's approval for this release. Jim & Tobe have now asked me to pass our latest version by all of you (I will communicate via the bulletin board from now on):

Here goes:

"The monthly meeting of Support Onteora Schools (SOS) was held on Saturday, March 16th in Olivebridge. Among other matters of business, a vote was held to select candidates to run for three Onteora Board of Education seats becoming vacant in May.

Incumbent Marino D'Orazio of West Hurley, along with Kathy Hochman of Shokan and Neil Eisenberg of Mt. Tremper were unanimously chosen.

To support these candidates, a Fundraiser & Campaign Kick-off will be held at the Boiceville Inn on Sunday, April 14th from 1-5 pm. Free entertainment will include music of Justin Love, the Pontiacs and surprise guests. For information, call 657-7236.

SOS is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting positive educational values and fiscal responsibility within the Onteora School District."

It is my intention to send this release to the following newspapers: Daily Freeman, Woodstock Times, Woodstock Journal, Phoenicia Times, Ulster County Townsman, Times Herald-Record, Mountain Eagle and Catskill Mountain News.

As time is of the essence, please review and comment ASAP. I can be reached at 339-5318 (home) or 331-0028 (work).

Thank you,

Laurel Herdman

Rather than say "Among other matters of business, a vote was held to select candidates to run for three Onteora Board of Education seats becoming vacant in May."

I would word it this way... "Among other matters of business, a vote was held to select which candidates SOS will be endorsing for three Onteora Board of Education seats becoming vacant in May.

The other way sounds like SOS is controlling the whole process rather than lending its support and endorsement.

Good point, Neil. That's why it's nice to get the group input.

I'm happy with that correction and it going out en massse to the press. Any other thoughts?

I especially want to thank Laurel for working so diligently on this release. Especially putting up with the Tobe and Jim show ;-). And to welcome her to the SOS bbs.

PS-This is a fine thing to put on the board as a topic and I will leave it as such.
