I am having trouble with my VCDs...i am using the tmpgenc 12h encoding program, and then using Roxio Platinem to create the VCD. I have made many VCDs using my fathers computer and all work fine on my DVD player. However, I have just purchased my own PC and I am using Windows XP (same as my fathers) and doing exactly the same process as on the other PC, but the VCDs that i burn on my PC can not be viewed on the DVD player. I think that it may have something to do with the encoding program, but am unsure. All the files are on the CD and everything looks fine until you put it in the DVD player. Is Tmpgenc XP compatitable...please help as i am going through the CD-R's like there is no tomorow!! thanx :)

TMPGenc is said to be XP compatible. However, you really should not use Roxio. Roxio has tons of bugs, problems, it does not create standard VCDs, and on and on. I'd be a lot more inclined to blame Roxio than TMPGenc for your problem. Try downloading Nero from http://www.ahead.de. You can use it for free for 30 days and see if your problems don't magically vanish when you use it to burn instead of Roxio.

Roxio Platimum and XP don't mix. Not only had I lost $80 on the software because it is totally useless, I almost lost my sanity while trying to uninstall Roxio. It was an absolute nightmare. Go to czet.com, you will find hundreds of XP users saying the Roxio is worthless. You can even go to amazon.com where hundreads of users saying the same thing. I tried Nero 5.5, it works great.

Roxio IS worthless, however it WILL work under Windows XP. You'll most likely need to download a patch for it to work, however I've had it working under Windows XP fine without the patch. I'd be more than willing to blame Roxio as well, however, since it works on your fathers computer without a problem, you'll probably need to see EXACTLY what is different. It could be a different brand of CDs that is causing the problem - some DVDs will only read darker CDs (the dark blue or black ones for example). If you're using the same brand of CDs, it might be the CD-Burner. VCDs are burnt in Mode 2 - perhaps your CD-Burner can't support Mode 2 Cds. Mix and match variables between your father and your computers... if all of that fails.. well, ask him to swap computers :)

I use both Roxio and Nero under XP and both work fine after a few hours of installing patches for XP which you can find under microsoft webpage. Still, I have a simular type of an issue, my DVD player Toshiba Sd-1200 played VCD's when I first got it, but now refuses to play CD-R's but will play CR-RWs. Check this website ( http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayershack.php ) for a possible hack for your player, which also might help. But if you'd like to invest some money, buy a deawoo DVD player, most of them can be hacked, and not only wil they play all types of VCD's SVCD's, but also all regions and will convert PAL to NTSC so you wont need a multiregion TV to play foregin movies.
