wow is that stuff horrible! this is really one way to mess up the simple and industrial design of a leica m. political correct or not, is anyone really contemplating on putting that stuff on their camera? there is probably an option to put on leather of endangered species. how about a tiger fur leica?

In comparison the M6 TTL Titanium actually looks good.

how about that one? all the external plastic parts could be executed in ivory!

How about an M6 "Panda" made from real panda hide? Or an M6 "Jaguar" made from real ... etc.

One done in newsprint would have to look right!

I want mine in faux gaffer's tape, for the understated, industrial look. (And besides, when thieves see it, won't they be fooled into thinking my precious M6 is some cheap old camera??? Clever, huh? Yea, I thought so, too.)

Cheers, Dennis

I like that! Lets hope they do trashed photojournalist style gaffer tape for even more authenticity!

Why isn't anyone satisfied with the finishes that Leica provides? It's not as if they don't already provide a bunch of options.

leica attracts a fair number of noncomformists, so it surprises me not that there would be those who would enjoy customizing their cameras. check out stephen gandy's custom painted m4 at www.cameraquest.com.

"Faux gaffer tape"? Why not real gaffer hide? :-)

Eliot, I wasnt aware that Leica did different finishes that you can have put onto your existing camera? I thought that the other finishes were only available on the special edition cameras. If I am talking rubbish, how much would one of these cost?

-- Karl Yik (karl.yik@dk.com), March 21, 2002.

Karl. Leica provides a choice of finishes in the camera before you buy it not after. The most recent have been black, chrome, titanium (both pre-TTL M6 and TTL now, and of course, black paint). This is not to mention a smaller number of M6 TTL cameras made in safari green paint, which you can probably still buy new at a premium through dealers. Of the very limited edition cameras, there were two platinum M6 editions, and several gold-plated cameras. I probably left a few out.

Why isn't this enough choice?

-- Eliot (erosen@lij.edu), March 21, 2002.

Eliot, you seem to be mentioning the case finishes on the body itself rather than the different types of leather(ette) finishes around the body no?

It must be so rediculous that our firewall will not let me into the site! "forbidden by rating check" so I guess my seal skin (waterproof) cover will have to wait.

How about this?

Whats the hell is that made from???

-- Karl Yik (karl.yik@dk.com), March 21, 2002.

I have no idea what this "Cosmos" finish is made of. If you have a Leica custom leather fetish, you'll go crazy here.

-- Hoyin Lee (leehoyin@hutchcity.com), March 21, 2002.

Lucien, I have an aversion to snakes in any form, however the fake leatherette looks interesting. I think you're doing some interesting and creative work. Go with it and good luck...

My guess is that these are Photoshop created. Maybe early April Fools jokes?

In a word: "GACK!"

-- Ben Hughes (ben@hughesbros.com), March 21, 2002.

I think it's one of those crazy Russian creations - if you look in any of the camera shops in Prague etc alongside the usual strange luftwaffen/IIIG Swedish/HEER combinations are some very strange green or wooden finish bodies.

I want a leica with a tattoo that says " MINE IS BETTER THAN YOURS".

-- Yip (koklok@lit.org.sg), March 21, 2002.

My M6 is covered with rhino hide, its tough as hell, and its a grey black and it has lumps where the grip end is, just about where the rhinos ass curves and probably got calusses from where it used to rub it on tree bark. Special order from Solms Custom Order.
