How do you get rid of moles? : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

My neighbor has a big problem with moles...tunnels everywhere.Does anyone know a way to get rid of the entire colony?

A friend suggested running pipe from the muffler of his truck to the hole to kill them with carbon monoxide.Do you think that might work? They also have dogs,so not sure poison is the way to go.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

This worked for me ..... get a siberian husky... they have sensitive ears and cant stand the squeaky sound they make. I havent had a mole in my garden since we got her... Her name is Bama...sorry i had to be a proud "mama" for a sec.,,LOL

traps have always worked for me, and my cat has developed an ear for them also,, but he cant dig them out,, but lets me know where its at, and them I get to "pitchfork" the bugger

I am not sure it is a mole, but we have some tunnels that look like they are from the movie "Tremors". We are trying to figure out what they might be...they are huge! Any thoughts?

Our cats dig them up, not enough, but they're working on them. Our black lab likes to play with them, he's disappointed when they run away.

Traps are the best. Carbon monoxide works. Another way is to get rid of their food supply which involves lawn pesticides to kill the grubs and worms they live on. I vote for traps.

Silly question, but what harm do they do? I always figure they help loosen the soil and areate the soil, and if they eat grubs, I love them!

they can/will eat roots and such,, rhubarb, aspasgus,, fruit trees, bulbs flowers, ect,, Had one decimate my onion patch

OK, I just wondered!

I think I read this recently on the countryside forum: Put two pieces of juicyfruit gum in the hole. Several people swore by it. Swallowing the gum kills them without poison. I don't know why you must have juicyfruit gum.

don't waste your time with the gum method. although the gum is supposed to be indigestable, therefore killing the moles, it won't work.

1. moles eat insects, which are very hard to digest, so they won't have much trouble with gum.

2. getting the moles to eat the gum would be a challenge anyway. the gum doesn't smell or taste anything like their food sources.
