The return of...Who Am I?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
Last year some time I did a little WAI? competition which was almost fun for a while. Thought I'd have another go. I'll give a clue to a former or current Toon player, you have to guess who it is. First bbser to get it on the first clue gets 3 points. If no-one gets it, you get a second clue and the answer is now worth 2, then a third clue for one point. I'll keep track of cumulative scores.
Note: Only one guess per clue per bbser. I'll try and leave it about half a day between clues so you've got plenty of time to guess. And I'm going to use soccerbase/official shite/outdated Who's Who for my info, so a)blame them if I get stuff wrong and b)don't cheat, it's too easy! OK?

Clue 1: I was born in Peterlee.
-- Anonymous, March 19, 2002
I'd have to guess at Steve Harper, but I thought he was Easington and my geography of that sort of are isn't up to knowing if they're near each other
-- Anonymous, March 19, 2002
Yup, Steve Harper.
-- Anonymous, March 19, 2002
I think you're Dan. It's bit too easy if you leave your email address in yi daft bugga. :-)Steve Harper is my best guess as well.
-- Anonymous, March 19, 2002
I was born in Peterlee too (brought up in Wallsend though), and my birth certificate has Easington, Durham Eastern written on it, so aye, Stevie Harper.
-- Anonymous, March 19, 2002
Seeing as how everyone has guessed at Steve Harper I'll go withKevin ScottSteve Howey.
-- Anonymous, March 19, 2002
Wrong. By the way, there no point guessing the same as someone else since, if they're right and they were first, they get the points. Hence the skill and tension (oh really, dan?) in timing your guess! Next clue...early Weds afty, I hope. Assuming no-one gets it before then. Tell you what, everyone but mac can have another guess, since your Steve Harpers are all technically redundant...

3 points to Jonno :@)
-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002
I agreed cos I knew he was right. Therefore desn't matter if I agree or not cos he's already got em.
-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002
Nope, I keep rereading Andy's posting and i still don't understand. Unless you were just agreeing with me that there's no point posting something that someone else has already posted because they'll get the points in which case you're right but you're wrong because you're wrong about mac being right. All right?
Ahem. Round 2.
Clue 1: I've been a club manager in England and Scotland.
-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002
Bob Moncur, anyone concur ?
-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002
You take all the fun out of this. Correct.
-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002
I could have been a sad mackem if I hadn't been born in the right place
-- Anonymous, March 20, 2002
Round 3.
Clue 1: I made 72 appearances for NUFC in the 80's, scoring 3 goals.
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
John Anderson?
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
Sh@t guess thinking about it. Anderson would have played a lot more games.
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
The immortal George Reilly, perchance?
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
Nah, Reilly wouldn't have played that many games - cancel that guess!
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
I would never have got it from that clue, but I've looked it up and know the answer, good one
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
Clearly a trick question then. In that case my stab in the dark is Lee Clark?
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
Brock
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
Kilcline (haven't got a clue really)
-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002

-- Anonymous, March 21, 2002
Back to the top - howay man Dan, we're all waiting for t' next clue! ;o{)
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Clue 2: I once scored two own-goals in the same match.
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
That's a real toughie. The only one I can think it might be is Peter Jackson, but I don't recall him scoring 2 OG's in one match.
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Is that a guess or what? :@)
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Hey give him it !!!!!
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Frank Sinclair(or whichever one plays for Leicester)....oh...you mean Toon players....hmmmmmmm
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Well.....not exactly Dan.I was discussing the question with the Painter we have in and he reckons he was at the game where PJ scored two ogs - the only time he's ever seen a player achieve that feat. However, he couldn't recall who the game was against. He promised to ask his mate Tony the Undertaker tomorrow, who he reckoned was sure to know, and let me know.
Apart from that it was pure deduction! ;o {)
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Ah - Tony the Undertaker. If that's he guy I think it is, he'll know. Dead cert :)
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
It was against Scum in '87. Two points. :@)
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002
Chris Nichol then playing for either Southamton or Villa against the other one scored all 4 goals in a 2-2 draw, circa 1977/78 when I used to shout "Football" around the doors of Whickham on a Saturday night
-- Anonymous, March 22, 2002

Clue 2: I died aged 42.
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002
Terry, Terry, Terry, Terry Hibbitt, perchance?
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002
What, on the wing in the angelic sense? I didn't know he'd died.
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002
John Hendrie...although he's still alive
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002
Ted Robledo?Hibbit died a few years back aged around 48 or so.
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002

Just the 2 points Dan, 2nd clue. (This must be the equivalent of "walking" in a cricket match) :-)
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002
Good spot.
-- Anonymous, March 25, 2002
A new one:
Clue 1. Not including cups: I made 18 substitute appearances for Newcastle, and have scored 18 goals in my career.
